Aiken College & Career High School

College Bound Program

Goal: To provide all students exposure and the necessary skills & information to insure their readiness for post high school educational options.

9th Grade – Ms. Washington – College Access Coordinator – College Bound Center

  • Create an Individual Academic Career Plan
    • Discuss and create a 4 year course schedule needed for college focus
    • Understand the credit system
    • Understand GPA
    • Monitor grades
  • Review KUDER Assessments
  • Monthly college visits
  • Prepare students for the OGT
  • Encourage students to become involved in extra-curricular activities and community service
    • Create an “Activities and Awards” file for each student

10th Grade – Ms. Washington – College Access Coordinator – College Bound Center

  • Prepare for the PSAT and PLAN tests
    • Analyze and review student results
  • Discuss Advanced Placement courses
  • OGT preparation
  • Review High School Plan & KUDER Assessment
  • Update “Activities and Awards” file for each student
  • Monthly college visits

11th Grade – Mrs. Chapel – GE College Bound Director – College Bound Center

The College Access Alliance Core Group will ensure that students complete the following activities:

  • Register for the ACT/SAT
  • Create resume of personal experiences and high school accomplishments
  • Attend College Fairs
  • Attend Financial Aid workshops
  • Research scholarships and grants
  • Research colleges and college options
    • Create a list of college choices and schedule visits

12th Grade – Mrs. Sloan – Guidance Counselor – “One Stop” Center

The College Access Alliance Core Group will ensure that students complete the following activities:

  • Create a Senior Event calendar
  • Request recommendation letters from teachers, community leaders, employers etc.
  • Retake the SAT/ACT
  • Complete and submit college applications (Minimum of 5)
    • Review all materials before submission (essays, transcripts, application, fee waivers, etc.)
  • Attend Financial Aid workshop
  • Complete and submit the FAFSA Form
    • Encourage electronic submission (assist students and parents in applying for PIN number)
  • Apply for scholarships and grants

The College Bound Center has:

  • Over 300 applications from colleges and universities from across the United States.
  • ACT and SAT test registration and preparation. These are the most widely accepted college admissions tests. Juniors should consider taking these tests in the spring. Go to www.act.org for more information about the ACT and www.collegeboard.com for information about the SAT.
  • College campus visits.
  • GE programs and incentives (including tutoring, mentoring, and extra curricular activities).

GE, our Partner in Education, is active in the College Bound Program.
